I come from a diy build your own for racing quad background, and as soon as it is flying the mavic pro with my goggles, it had always felt like it's missing something.
Looking at the control_mode (2)=8 setting and seeing the presents in the parameters for "manual_mode_vel= "settings I took the plunge!!
To start IF YOU NEVER FLOWN A RACE QUAD YOUR MAVIC PRO IS NOT THE PLACE TO LEARN HOW TO DO IT!! go but a tiny whoop and a simulator and when you can fly that, maybe you will want to try this.
If you have flown in acro mode, give this a shot. But it's kind of like riding as skateboard for a few years, then you strap on some skis.. the skills transfer but it's different.
First DJI remote is not your taranis or spectrum controller, your throttle centers!! So the second you switch to manual mode, the mavic climbs.. and fast!!
Secondly it's a lot bigger and had a lot less power than your probably used to, those little 1806 motors (that's just a guess) don't have the power of the 2208 or 2304 motors your race quad had and it's twice as heavy and only running a 3s battery. But the larger props do help. But you drift give yourself some room to turn. I haven't played with the expo and rates yet but those will prob help.
Third, I haven't had this problem but I'm guessing it could happen. Ever Palm land your mavic and turn it upside down to stop there props, I'd imagine if your doing a power loop with a large amount of upside down hang time your MAVIC might shut down on you.. also your imu gets confused when your upside down, and you switch to GPS mode, the mavic will think it's right side up, so don't switch into GPS mode unless your right side up.. on the other hand, you do have a safety switch..
You have a safety switch now, if your out of control a quick flick of the mode switch to gps mode, and let go of the sticks you will drop you into position hold.
Anyone else try this? Any tips of tricks?
I'm thinking the might be a parameters for throttle idle I could drop down so the center stick throttle doesn't act like throttling up. If anyone is interested I'll keep you posted on what I figured out.
